So... the Friday after Thanksgiving is an everybody stay in night in the "Big City". I think I've seen more people out on Christmas Eve in New York (although then they are mostly Jewish people eating at Chinese Restaurants or going to one of the many "Matzo Balls"....). Anyway, it was time to get another dose of the 80's, so I watched "Coming to America" with Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall and then went out to an 80's themed club (Culture Club).
Anyway, there are so many things I forgot about "Coming to America". First of all... Arsenio Hall was funny, very funny. Where did he go wrong? There are so many nuances in that movie that every time I watch it I see another one. It wasn't until the second time I saw it that I noticed the bums he gives the money to are the guys he and Dan Ackroyd steal it from in "Trading Places". The woman in the Western Union office could have stolen the whole movie!
Semi: "You are right... $500,000."
Woman: "Why don't you just ask for a cool million?"
Semi: "You don't think that is too much?"
Woman: "Naaahhh."
So New Yorker.... to the bone.
And of course the great line when they first arrive in Queens and the woman throws her garbage out the window... "Semi... Look... America is amazing... It is so free... people can throw glass on the street!"
Of course... my favorites are the barber shop guys... especially Eddie Murphy playing the white Jewish guy in the barber shop and the joke he tells in the end... delivered like he truly is an old Jewsh guy.... "Acha!..... Acha!"
Of course, Culture Club was Culture Club... all the 80's hits (the 90's part wasn't open due to the fact that there were just not enough people)....
You just have to get a dose of the 80's every once in a while.
